Local Control

I introduced a Resolution in support of ending state preemption laws that prevent municipalities like Salisbury Township and Allentown from increasing their minimum wage.

Local communities know their needs best. But too often, Harrisburg politicians use state preemption laws to strip away the power of cities, towns, and townships to protect their residents. From banning local minimum wage increases, to blocking stronger gun safety ordinances, to limiting environmental protections, state preemption ties the hands of local governments and undermines democracy. As State Representative, I will fight to:

  • Restore local control so municipalities can set policies that reflect the values and needs of their residents.

  • End harmful preemption laws that prevent communities from raising wages, passing common-sense gun safety measures, or protecting public health and the environment.

  • Decrease our reliance on property taxes by diversifying revenue streams.

  • Implement a progressive property tax, so that we’re not forced to raise taxes on our most vulnerable residents at the same rate as the wealthiest residents.

  • Strengthen democracy by ensuring local elected officials are able to deliver for their constituents without being blocked by state-imposed restrictions.
